The Role: Product Owner

We’re hiring for a talented Product Owner that has combined skills in product ownership, digital strategy and UX. Working together with our clients and internal teams you’ll be helping them solve client problems by bringing them on a thoughtful product and design journey. Our products aim to be so user-friendly and engaging that our customers are instantly obsessed. You’ll have loads of energy and ideas to bring to the table paired with ample experience to know what good product and service design looks like. Play is the perfect place for someone who likes to lean in and define processes rather than follow them.

What you’ll get to do:

  • Take the lead of scrum teams as the Product Owner
  • Write user stories based on vision and high level requirements
  • Be responsible for driving detailed story point estimates for backlog items
  • Refine prioritise and update the product backlog
  • Evaluate product progress at each iteration
  • Run product demos at the end of each sprint
  • Participate in and running sprint ceremonies
  • Plan and prioritize product feature backlog and development for the product

What you’ll need:

  • 3+ years of experience in a Product Owner role

Project Management

QA Manager

FULL-TIME - LONDON

The Role: QA Manager

At Play, we build beautiful web/mobile products that are highly engaging and user friendly. The Quality of these products and their features must work properly and efficiently to meet the needs of our customers and their end-users. We want these users of products to have the best experience possible. We are hiring a QA Manager to oversee the quality testing of these web products.

What you’ll get to do:

  • Manage the relationship with our current testing provider and coordinate testing efforts
  • Lead our testing, taking responsibility for the quality of testing and testing processes
  • Implement and execute solid test strategies
  • Play a key part in the delivery team working closely with developers, designers, testers (internal and external), product and project managers to produce products we’re deeply proud of
  • Work with the QA team to delegate tasks, assess risks and resolve escalated issues
  • Collaborate with Product and Project Managers to strategise QA sprints and deliver builds on time
  • Review existing QA processes, suggesting and implementing improvements
  • Be the gate between our QA team and customer - improving UAT
  • Be an advocate for Quality Assurance and take ownership of QA
  • Introduce automation testing

What you’ll need:

  • 5+ years of experience in Testing Web/Mobile products
  • Experience managing or leading a team of manual QA testers
  • Ability to challenge and question current testing
  • Experience with UAT testing and can write and review test cases
  • Manual testing experience
  • Experience working in a dynamic, smaller team, ideally in a start-up or scale-up
  • Confidence to speak with clients
  • Automation testing knowledge
  • Ability to flag up when there is an issue in a test case
  • Work experience in an agile environment

Bonus points:

  • Development/Testing background in apps or the games industry
  • Project Management experience

The Role: Senior Full-Stack Software Developer

We are looking for an experienced Senior Full-Stack Software Developer with an eye for detail and passion for developing amazing web applications. You’ll work closely with other developers, designers, product and testers to produce truly awesome features and software applications which make a difference to people’s lives.

  • Flexibility and pragmatism - ability to operate in a fast-moving and challenging environment
  • Experience working in a dynamic environment, possibly in a startup or scale up
  • Experience with API driven development

Back-End Software Developer

FULL-TIME - LONDON

The Role: Back-End Software Developer

We are seeking an experienced Back-End Software Developer to create elegant, scalable systems. You'll enjoy spending your day-to-day creating backend systems to support our products, and working closely with the product and mobile/web development teams to produce something truly awesome!!!

What you’ll get to do:

  • Create clean scalable reusable code for our mobile and web products
  • Participate in daily standups and sprint planning sessions (as part of an Agile environment)
  • Develop solutions for gamification services e.g leaderboards, questionnaires, graph data and notification services.
  • Develop build processes
  • Help architect applications and infrastructure
  • Mentor other developers on the team
  • Learn, implement and evangelize at least one of the other latest development tools, libraries and design patterns e.g Kotlin, Java, Python etc
  • Work closely with the other developers to build a world-class engineering team
  • Own it - we’ll give you the freedom to take all the responsibility you want
  • Step outside your comfort zone and be supported in doing so

    What you’ll need:

  • At least 5+ years’ experience and have developed scalable web applications.

  • Core language requirements: Javascript (node), Docker, Python
  • Developed RESTful APIs embracing SOLID principles
  • Exposure to/ Experience with Cloud Services e.g AWS/Azure/CGP
  • Experience with SQL/noSQL databases

Product Designer

FULL-TIME - LONDON

The Role: Product Designer

Play is, at its heart, a product business, and as such, this role is key to our business’s continued success. We are looking for an ambitious Product Designer who takes more pride in shipping live products than vapourware. We like people who can craft solid design solutions to quickly take the team on the journey with them. You’ll have loads of energy and ideas to bring to the table paired with ample experience to know what good product design looks like. Play is the perfect place for someone who likes to lean in and define processes rather than follow them.

What you’ll get to do:

  • Play with a cross-functional team of product designers/managers, developers, QA and Project Managers, generally two-four people
  • Work on a range of projects from multiple clients ranging from quick-fire Sprint 0’s, (our design sprint process for defining a solution to a client challenged), to design across the full lifecycle of a product
  • Opportunity to work on client projects or on our own internal product, Totem
  • Run workshops with clients to help them identify underlying user challenges, user flows and experience maps
  • Work through wireframes, visual designs and Marvel prototypes
  • Collaborate with the development team to ensure every design is buildable

What you’ll need:

  • 2+ years of experience in product/UX design or as a visual designer
  • Examples/portfolio of your work that you can share, with the thinking about why a product is designed as it is

The Role: Head of Product

At Play, we build beautiful web/mobile products that are highly engaging and user friendly for our customers and their end-users. We’re hiring for a Head of Product who is equipped with their own product playbook and team management skills to be the ‘go-to’ for our clients’ product journey and vision. This is an opportunity to be part of something great!

What you’ll get to do:

  • Use your team leadership skills to guide the team and build relationships both internally and externally
  • Be responsible for nurturing and growing Product culture at Play, ensuring we’re striving to continually produce delightful products (and enjoy ourselves doing so!)
  • Support the commercial goals of the Studio by supporting Sales in attending workshops, speaking at early client pitches, and helping form proposals
  • Mentor and line-manage junior and mid-weight members of the team, helping them develop their own skills and careers - we’re guardians of everyone’s careers so we think this is super important!
  • Work with our CPO and Talent Acquisition teams to bring in some amazing permanent and contract Product people
  • Be the main point of contact for any contract designers we hire for shorter-term engagements
  • Help develop Play’s position within the market, developing a strong value proposition by writing blogs, running webinars, and preparing materials

What you’ll need:

  • Experience of being the main go-to for all things product strategy and development, ideally within an agency setting
  • The ability to bring your experience of building and shipping amazing products along with you, and the thirst to continue doing that within our ecosystem
  • The passion to have a tangible impact on a lot of client’s product journeys, redefining their attitudes towards product, and showing them ‘good’ can really be better
